August 15 is a very special day for Catholics in Acadiana as it celebrates the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is also a day that resonates in the hearts of all those who embrace their Acadian heritage. In honor of this day, a Eucharistic procession will take place along Bayou Teche from Leonville to St. Martinville. About 50 boats will disembark at 9:30 a.m., retracing the steps of local residents' Acadian ancestors along Bayou Teche. The procession will make several stops along the way for a recitation of the Rosary and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
8 a.m. - Begin with Holy Mass by Bishop Glen John Provost, D.D., Bishop of Lake Charles, at St. Leos in Leonville
9 a.m. - Procession goes boat landing
9:30 a.m. - Boat procession departs
Stops at Each Church on the Bayou: 10:20 a.m.11:05 a.m. in Arnaudville; 11:45 a.m.12:30 p.m. in Cecilia; 1:35 p.m.2:20 p.m. in Breaux Bridge; 3:15 p.m. 4 p.m. in Parks)
4:45 p.m. - The procession will arrive in St. Martinville and disembark behind Notre Dame de Perpetuel Secours, then enter the Church for Benediction.
5:15 p.m. - The procession will continue on foot to St. Martin de Tours for Benediction and then down Main Street to Mater Dolorosa Chapel for Solemn Vespers and Final Benediction at 6 p.m.
