• The Atchafalaya Basin has an estimate annual commercial harvest of 22 million pounds of crawfish.
• Native Americans were the first to harvest and consume crawfish in Louisiana.
• Louisiana crawfish aquaculture involves the red swamp crawfish and the white river crawfish.
• Crawfish are also known as crayfish, crawdads, and mudbugs. 
• Crawfish dig vertical burrons up to 40 inches deep.
